Registering a domain name is a big decision. Do you register only .co.za or a .com too? Do you register every .net, whatever?

If your company only deals with the South African market, then registering a .co.za domain will suffice. If however your company deals across borders, you might want to think of registering your .com too.

Website Hosting

If you are cost-conscious, you might want to save on website hosting costs. Yes, you do get free hosting, but do you really want your domain to be you.thiscompany.co.za or thiscompany.co.za/you – or worse, have ads displayed? I don’t recommend this.
Depending on your website’stechnology and size you could probably get a hosting service provider starting from R20 per month up to R200 per month – including mail addresses.

Website Design

Yes, the design of your website is important, but content will always be king.
Making sure that your website is user-friendly and full of valuable information that your website visitors need – this is first prize.

Before employing a web designer to build you a beautiful website, sit down and think about what you want to achieve, write it down. Look at other websites, write down notes about the ones you like – then give the website designer a call and sign on the dotted line.
